Sr. Head Brewer
Justin started in the kitchen of the first Iron Hill location in 1996. In the summer of 1998, he ventured into the brewery and never left. He has been a Head Brewer at Iron Hill since 2002 collecting awards at all the major beer competitions. He loves grabbing a seat at the bar after work, elbow to elbow with customers, and sharing his opinions about sports and beer.
Derek’s tenure with Iron Hill has taken him through our breweries in Lancaster, Chestnut Hill, Voorhees and Media. Derek began as a server at Lancaster before moving into assistant brewing.
A stint in Southern California took Derek to Gunwhale Ales, a microbrewery focused on farmhouse ales, and Riip Beer Company, known for their small batch IPAs. While out west, Derek continued to improve his brewing techniques and worked on beers that went on to win awards, including an IPA, an oyster stout and a Saison. He returned to Pennsylvania in May to work with us once again, bringing home some new West Coast tips and tricks.
A Lancaster native, Derek graduated from the American Brewers Guild in 2013. His favorite beer styles include mixed culture beers, IPAs and German lagers. Derek loves being outdoors. He enjoys traveling to national parks… and visiting new breweries along the way.
