Sr. Head Brewer
Justin started in the kitchen of the first Iron Hill location in 1996. In the summer of 1998, he ventured into the brewery and never left. He has been a Head Brewer at Iron Hill since 2002 collecting awards at all the major beer competitions. He loves grabbing a seat at the bar after work, elbow to elbow with customers, and sharing his opinions about sports and beer.
Cale became interested in brewing in 2004, after learning about different beer styles and finding that it was hard to find local, fresh IPA, brown ale, stouts and even lagers. So, he decided to team up with some friends a few years later and start homebrewing. What started as a hobby, developed into a passion and an unwavering career path in 2008. Cale believes that all styles of beer allow him to be creative when brewing; however, he likes to experiment most with sour beers. He likes to think about deconstructing delicious desserts, then turn them into crazy kettle sours, filled with all sorts of fruits, hops and other adjuncts like candy, cereal and lactose. And on the flip side, he really enjoys blending barrel aged sour beers that really let him maximize creativity, blending different components from each barrel to craft a unique blend. When he’s not in the brewery, you can find Cale enjoying Brazilin Jiu Jitsu, Judo or weight lifting, but always while listening to music (mostly house/ dance and metal).
