I know it’s been a long time since I posted anything on here.
I finally had a minute to catch my breath and tell you about something cool we did here in the brewery last week….
It has been crazy busy at the new Iron Hill Chestnut Hill, with 17 beers on tap for you to dive into a sampler or enjoy a cold mug.
Let me start by saying that I have never been a coffee drinker, I like the aroma and enjoy desserts with coffee, but I really love coffee beer.
When we brewed the Germantown Brown Ale here for our opening, I knew that it would be a great base beer to age coffee on. I could not pass up the chance to use the locally roasted coffee from Chestnut Hill Coffee Company.
I had met the roaster Tom, during our construction. I walked a block up the street with a bottle of our Afternoon Delight Imperial Coffee Porter for Tom and planned everything out.
The collaboration started early last Tuesday morning when Tom brought us 15 lbs. of their freshly roasted House Blend coffee beans.
The coolest part was that they were still warm, straight from the roaster.
All Derek and I had to do was put them in a bag and add them to the tank full of Germantown Brown Ale and the coffee started to work its magic.
Every morning our ritual has been to take a sample of the beer and indulge in the coffee aroma… and of course the taste.
We decided to name this beer G-Town Coffee Brown, and it will be on tap next Thursday March 8th at 5pm, hope you can come join us and Tom the roaster
