A Farewell to Bob Barrar

Iron Hill Friends, Guests and Family,

It is with mixed emotions that Iron Hill bids farewell to Bob Barrar, Head Brewer in our Media, PA restaurant.
Bob has been with Iron Hill for 15 incredible years and is leaving to start his own distributing brewery, the 2SP Brewing Company in Chester, PA.

In February of 2000, I got a call from Jim Cancro of Red Bell Brewing, who told me they were closing down operations and he had a really great brewer he wanted to find a good home for and wanted us to consider hiring Bob. I interviewed Bob and the rest is history. In those 15 years, Bob has delivered literally world class beers each and every day to the customers in Media, and almost every Friday night, Bob and his family could be found in the bar booth by the brewery, sharing beers with guests.

Over almost 20 years, Iron Hill has won 64 medals at the Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup and 30 of them are for beers brewed by Bob and his staff. Bob is best known for brewing our 15 time award winning Russian Imperial Stout. While putting the best beers in the world in the hands of customers, they could also find him in the corner booth to say hello or talk about a new beer they just tried. Although we are sad to say farewell to Bob, we are equally excited that he is going out on his own and bringing world class beers to a wider audience. Bob’s last day at Iron Hill is today, January 30th, but customers will have an opportunity to say goodbye and wish Bob well at the annual Polar Bear Plunge held in the Media restaurant on Friday, February 6th from 4-8 PM.
